28/06/22 – MIPLACE partners based at Imperial College London (ICL) were delighted to take part in the Great Exhibition Road Festival 2022, a festival of science and arts activities, that took place in the South Kensington area of London over the weekend of the 18th and 19th of June.  The organisers have hailed the event a great success with there being an estimated 38,000 visitors over the course of the weekend.  MIPLACE shared a ‘Build a Bug’ workshop with a healthcare research team from ICL to show families with young children how microbes could be ‘helpful’ by tackling plastic waste or ‘unhelpful’ by making us sick and developing antibiotic resistance.  We estimate that 400 children with their families visited our workshop to learn about microbes through building and transforming bugs with pom poms and pipe cleaners and by producing some colourful works of art.  Everyone seemed to have a lot of fun including our workshop volunteers from the Jimenez Group at ICL whose contributions were invaluable for ensuring the success of the workshop.  You can read more about the festival here and our workshop here.
